The wedding photo sharing app for UK weddings

By Tony Syme · Updated 7 November 2026

Kaptr is a wedding photo sharing app made for UK weddings, and your guests don't need to download anything to use it. They scan a QR code on the table, a camera opens in their phone's browser, and every photo comes to you for approval before anyone else sees it.

What Kaptr is

Kaptr gives your wedding its own private camera and gallery. Guests use it on the phone already in their pocket, whether that's an iPhone with Safari or an Android with Chrome.

They can take photos and short videos of up to 20 seconds. If you allow it, they can also send pictures they've already taken from their camera roll.

You see every upload as it arrives, and you decide what goes into the shared gallery. We make Kaptr in Glasgow and we're piloting it with Scottish wedding venues in 2027, so it's built around how weddings here actually run.

How it works on the day

The short version: you set it up once, guests scan and shoot, and you collect everything afterwards. Here's what that looks like across the whole wedding.

Before the wedding

Create your event and choose how it should behave. You can switch camera roll uploads off, set a number of shots per guest, and pick a time for the shared gallery to open.

Then sort your QR codes. Kaptr has printable table cards in Minimal, Framed and Table Tent designs, or you can hand the code over to Canva and make signs that match your stationery. Our guide to QR code wedding photos covers where to put them so people actually scan.

During the wedding

A guest scans the code, types their first name and starts shooting. That works for the confetti line, the first dance and the best man's speech alike.

Every upload lands in your approval queue. You can approve it, reject it, or blur part of a photo so guests only ever see the blurred copy.

If you'd like to get people moving, post a photo challenge. One prompt shows on every guest's camera at a time, like "find someone you've never met and get a selfie". There are plenty more ideas in our list of wedding photo challenges.

You can also put a live slideshow on a TV or projector at the venue. Only approved photos appear, and guests can send emoji reactions that burst across the screen. The live photo wall page explains how to set it up.

After the wedding

If you've set a timed reveal, the shared gallery stays sealed until the time you picked. The morning after works well, because everyone wakes up to the photos together.

Guests can then browse the gallery and like their favourites. You can download everything as a single full-quality ZIP to keep or pass to family.

Kaptr can also make a vertical highlight reel from your approved photos and clips. It doesn't include music or audio yet, so add a track in your usual editing app if you want one. For the full timeline, read our guide to collecting wedding photos from guests.

Get every guest's photos without anyone downloading an app.

What you control as a couple

Nothing a guest shares reaches the gallery or the screen without you. That matters when there are children at the wedding, or a guest who'd rather not appear online.

Here's what's in your hands:

  • Approval. Every photo and video waits in your queue until you approve or reject it.
  • Blurring. Blur part of a photo, such as a face or a background detail, and guests see only the blurred version.
  • Camera roll uploads. Leave them on for guests who've been snapping all day, or turn them off so everything comes from Kaptr's camera.
  • Shot limits. Give each guest a set number of shots, such as 10 each. The limit is checked on our server, so reloading the page doesn't reset it.
  • The reveal. Choose when the shared gallery opens. You always see everything straight away.
  • Challenges. Post one prompt at a time and swap it whenever you like.

You don't have to watch the queue during the meal. Approve things when you get a quiet moment, or leave it all until the next day.

A guest experience that works on any phone

Your guest list probably runs from teenagers to grandparents, so the camera has to be obvious. There's no app to find and no password to remember. Guests scan, type a first name, and they're taking photos.

Photos taken in Kaptr's camera get a warm, film-style colour grade with grain and a date stamp burned in. That gives the whole set a matching look, even when the phones behind it are very different. If you love that feel, our disposable camera app page shows how to lean into it with shot limits and a reveal.

Tip

Put a card on every table, plus one at the bar. The bar queue is where people scan.

Venues with bad mobile signal

Plenty of Scottish wedding venues sit down a glen or behind thick stone walls, and mobile signal can be patchy. Kaptr is built for that.

If a photo can't send, it waits on the guest's phone. It sends automatically once signal or wifi comes back, so guests can keep shooting without retrying anything.

It still helps to share the venue wifi details on your table cards if there is wifi. If you run a venue and want to know more, have a look at Kaptr for venues.

How Kaptr compares with other ways to collect photos

Most couples have tried, or been asked to join, one of the usual options. Each has its place, but they tend to fall short in the same few spots.

WhatsApp groups

A group chat feels easy because everyone already has it. In practice, you need everyone's number, the photos get buried among messages, and the files are often compressed. There's also no way to check a photo before the whole group sees it.

Shared albums

Shared albums from phone or cloud services keep photos together, but guests usually need to join with an account. They can also be awkward when your guests are split between iPhone and Android.

Disposable cameras on the tables

Disposables are great fun, and that's why Kaptr borrows their look. The downsides are the cost of developing, cameras that go missing, and a long wait before you see anything.

Questions

Do guests need to download an app to share wedding photos?+

No. Kaptr runs in the phone's web browser, so guests scan your QR code and the camera opens straight away. There's no app store and no account to create.

Can we take a photo down after we've approved it?+

Yes. Approving a photo isn't final, and you can remove it later if you change your mind.

Is there a free wedding photo sharing app in the UK?+

Your first event on Kaptr is free and you don't need to add a card. After that you pay once per event, starting at £29.

Can a wedding planner use Kaptr for lots of weddings?+

Yes. Venues and planners can take the Unlimited plan at £15 a month instead of paying per event. This is early pricing and may change.
